‘So why is a guy blogging about community building, writing about the latest Hollywood action blockbuster?’ you ask.
Simple. It was AWESOME!
Not just AWESOME like the original, or Die Hard… but really, really AWESOME!!
So let’s examine the reasons why? 🛩
TOP TEN reasons TOP GUN: MAVERICK was so AWESOME!
It was old-school fun and action entertainment - and did not purport to be anything else.
No political messages or agendas!
All the characters were highly competent! Good guys and bad guys alike are all highly educated, trained and skilled at their chosen professions. This is a relief from movies over recent years which portray successful people (particularly men) as bumbling fools.
Little reliance on CGI - with most of the action sequences filmed live (in real fighter jets, over some amazing real-world scenery).
Good looking people. 😉 Lots of them!
Fast and beautiful planes, motorbikes, cars, ships and yachts.
An exciting love development arc, without an embarrassing love scene.
No blood, guts or gore - but plenty of stunts and action.
Emotionally nostalgic and patriotic, yet new and modern in delivery.
Superb soundtrack and sound effects (a true cinematic joyride).
I simply could not fault it - and don’t want to fault it. It was PERFECT! 🛩
Top Gun and Community
A community is built upon shared customs, cultures and traditions. Our choice in entertainment is a reflection of our culture. In forging new communities we must decide - do we want to continue to be bombarded with political agendas, gore and hyper-sexualisation?
Or, do we want to return to simpler times when you could enjoy a movie for the reasons above and share in that excitement with your family and friends?
Based on the incredible reviews the movie is getting, plus the box office records being set (USA $156 million over opening long weekend) - it looks as though there are many others looking to return to simpler times.
Question: So how do we do this?
Answer: Your spending.
Spend your money only on entertainment which appeals to your sense of community. Hollywood will soon get the message. Which is the 11th reason why I plan on seeing it again! 🛩
GOLDSMITH
Have you seen TOP GUN: MAVERICK yet?
And if you have, how did you feel as you left the cinema? 🛩
